The New Castle Police Department Motor Unit utilizes Harley Davidson Electra Glides. The department currently has three motor units. The primary duties of the unit include traffic safety enforcement and education, police escorts, traffic control and assisting with various special events or community activities. All motor officers receive extensive training in escorts and the safe operation of motorcycles through the U.S. Park Police and/or Northwestern University in conjunction with Harley Davidson. The department typically operates the motor units when weather permits, but the motor units are utilized when necessary regardless of weather.
