The New Castle City Police Department said farewell to two Lieutenants this April.  Lt. Cynthia Collingwood and Lt. Nathaniel Akins both retired from the NCPD.

Lt. Akins has served as a member of the NCPD for 29 years.  Lt. Akins entire career was spent in the Patrol Division and he would not of had it any other way.  Lt. Akins played a vital role in the reconstitution of the NCPD’s Motor Unit.  Lt. Akins taught younger officers to treat people with respect, to be fair but also firm when the time called for it.  Lieutenant Akins also recognized that our youth was the future and that they need positive role models to look up to.

Lt. Collingwood served the NCPD for 25 years.   She worked in Patrol Division until she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Detective Bureau.  Later she was again promoted to lieutenant and assigned to the Juvenile Bureau.  After completing her assignment in the Juvenile Bureau, Lt. Collingwood was assigned to administration.  Lt. Collingwood was appointed the Acting Chief of Police during a transitional period in 2012.   Lt. Collingwood was instrumental in assisting with the move of the Police Department from the City building to the current headquarters location.

The New Castle Police Department congratulates Lt. Akins and Lt. Collingwood and wishes the best to both on their retirement.
