NCPD WARNS OF HOLIDAY SEASON PACKAGE THIEF’S

The New Castle City Police Department is asking city residents to keep an eye out for packages they order this holiday season after taking a report of a theft of a package from a front porch.

Like most cities, the NCPD typically does see a spike in theft of packages around the holiday season, especially around Cyber Monday.

The NCPD would also like to offer these tips to avoid having packages stolen:

-Send packages to people you trust, when you know they will be home and make sure they’re available to receive the package when it arrives.

-Requesting that the package be delivered with a signature from the recipient is a good way to make sure the package gets into the right hands.

-If you know you won’t be home when the package is scheduled to be delivered, ask the delivery company to hold onto it at its facility if possible. Using a tracking number for a package can let you know when a package will be delivered.

-Package recipients can also leave special instructions for the delivery company, like, “Please leave package on back stairs,” for example, that can reduce the chances of a package being left in a visible and vulnerable location.

-In-store pickup options and delivery company locker locations are also a good way to avoid leaving a package unattended on your front steps.
